How to Collect Wedding Video Messages from Guests Near and Far

Published July 3, 2026

At most weddings, three people get the mic and two hundred guests get none. A video-message collection flips that: every guest — and, crucially, everyone who couldn’t travel for the day — gets a chance to say something the couple actually keeps. Here’s how to run it.

1. Start the link before the RSVPs close

Add it to the wedding website or the invite itself. People who reply "yes" months out are the easiest to lose track of by the big day — capturing their message early, while the wedding is fresh on their mind, gets you a far higher response rate than asking after.

2. Prompt for advice and memory, not just congratulations

"Congrats!" makes a flat film. A specific prompt gets you something the couple will actually want to rewatch on their tenth anniversary:

  • What’s your best advice for a happy marriage?
  • When did you know these two were meant to be?
  • What are you wishing them for married life?
  • Share a favorite memory of the bride or groom.

3. Make the can’t-attend list a priority, not an afterthought

The people who mean the most to include are often the ones who can’t physically be there — a grandparent who can’t travel, a best friend stationed overseas. Send them the same link, personally, with a note that this is their way of being part of the day.

4. Keep the link live on the actual day

A QR code on the tables or in the program lets guests add a message right from their seats, in the moment — often warmer and looser than anything recorded in advance. It also catches guests who forgot about the pre-wedding link entirely.

5. Play it at the reception, or save it as a keepsake

Compile once the last clips are in — during dinner is plenty of time — and either play it as part of the reception or hold it back as a private gift for the couple to watch together after the day is over. Both are common; there’s no wrong choice.
